BEAMS Graduates Underprivileged Youth 

Karen, Nairobi, Kenya – June 29, 2025

On a bright Wednesday morning, 36 young men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 walked proudly across the graduation stage at BEAMS Media Training Centre in Nairobi. But this wasn’t just any graduation, it was a celebration of resilience, opportunity, and transformation.

The graduates come from some of Kenya’s most underprivileged backgrounds. Many had no access to formal education or job opportunities, until BEAMS stepped in. Through partnerships with local and international sponsors, BEAMS offered them free professional training in: Videography & Film Production, Photography, Graphic Design, Music Production & Sound Engineering, 3D Design & Printing

Beyond creative skills, students also learned about climate change, environmental conservation, and how to become more responsible citizens. They participated in tree planting, cleanups, and climate awareness workshops. Life skills, like communication, time management, and emotional intelligence, were also key parts of the program. “I never imagined I’d be filming my own documentaries,” said Hope, a videography graduate. “Now I can earn a living, and tell real stories.”

Many of these young creatives are already freelancing, producing music, and even launching their own online platforms. Some are mentoring others in their communities. “We’re not just training students,” says Isabel Murugi, a BEAMS coordinator. “We’re building leaders and storytellers for Kenya’s future.” With growing demand, BEAMS hopes to expand and reach more youth in need of opportunity, guidance, and tools to succeed in the digital economy.
