EMPOWER YOUTH NOW
The Power of Media for Youth
"Now, why is media training so important for young people today? In a world filled with content, media literacy is key. Youth are not just consumers, they're creators. But without the right skills, they may struggle to communicate effectively or challenge the media they consume. That’s where BEAMS steps in, providing hands-on training to help youth use media to express themselves, advocate for causes, and tell stories that matter."
"BEAMS stands for Bosco Eastern Africa Multimedia Services. The program teaches young people, aged 14 to 27, everything from the ethics of journalism to content creation and digital storytelling. Participants learn how to create podcasts, videos, and social media campaigns that can influence and inspire their communities.
“BEAMS is all about giving youth the tools they need to create media with
purpose. We don’t just teach them how to shoot videos or record podcasts; we
teach them how to craft a message, engage an audience, and create change.”
"One of the best parts about BEAMS is seeing the transformation in the participants. We spoke to Michelle Wambui, a recent graduate of the program. Here’s what she had to say."
“BEAMS taught me how to turn my passion for social justice into a podcast
that’s now being shared in my community. I feel more confident in my ability to
make an impact.”
"BEAMS is not just for aspiring media professionals; it’s for any young person who wants to make their voice heard. If you’re between 14 and 27, or if you know someone who is, consider joining BEAMS.
"Thank you for tuning in to Empower Youth Now. Media is a tool for
change, and programs like BEAMS are giving young people the skills to use it
wisely. Until next time, I’m Isaac Kirigwi. Stay creative and stay
empowered!"
