I’m your host, Isaac Kirigwi, and today we’re talking about an incredible initiative called BEAMS, a media training program designed to empower youth through storytelling and media creation."

The Power of Media for Youth

"Now, why is media training so important for young people today? In a world filled with content, media literacy is key. Youth are not just consumers, they're creators. But without the right skills, they may struggle to communicate effectively or challenge the media they consume. That’s where BEAMS steps in, providing hands-on training to help youth use media to express themselves, advocate for causes, and tell stories that matter."



 What BEAMS Offer:

"BEAMS stands for Bosco Eastern Africa Multimedia Services. The program teaches young people, aged 14 to 27, everything from the ethics of journalism to content creation and digital storytelling. Participants learn how to create podcasts, videos, and social media campaigns that can influence and inspire their communities.

“BEAMS is all about giving youth the tools they need to create media with purpose. We don’t just teach them how to shoot videos or record podcasts; we teach them how to craft a message, engage an audience, and create change.”

BEAMS Graduates Underprivileged Youth  Karen, Nairobi, Kenya – June 29, 2025 Graduates group photo On a bright Wednesday morning, 36 young men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 walked proudly across the graduation stage at BEAMS Media Training Centre in Nairobi. But this wasn’t just any graduation, it was a celebration of resilience, opportunity, and transformation. The graduates come from some of Kenya’s most underprivileged backgrounds. Many had no access to formal education or job opportunities, until BEAMS stepped in.
